Transit Visa

This type of visa is for those who are traveling to some other country via Russia and it is valid for a short period of stay in the country that does not exceed 72 hours. Usually, it is easy and inexpensive to get a transit visa: the Russian Consulate will issue it if you present a copy of your travel documents and your visa to the country of destination (if a visa is necessary). Visa Invitation is not required. There are also single-entry and double-entry Transit visas available. If you have some difficulties with getting your transit visa, most probably it will be easier to get a tourist one. Visa processing fee is not refundable. Please, note, that drop off day is not counted as business day! Visa processing starts only after we have collected all necessary documents. If you apply by mail, please, add one day to the visa processing time. The Russian transit visa is valid only for 3 calendar days. Any applicant may be interviewed by a consular officer if necessary. When you receive your visa please check it for mistakes (passport number, date of birth, validity) and, if necessary, return it to the Consulate for corrections. The Consulate will not be responsible for any mistakes in the visas, which were not brought to our attention prior to your departure. Please, note that that visas cannot be changed or extended. If your travel plans changed after the visa issuance you have to reapply for a new visa. Processing times, requirements and fees are subject to change without notice.

To obtain a Transit visa the following documents should be submitted to the Consulate:
  • A completed visa application form (one per person) available at the Consulate or from travel agencies and visa services. See the forms below.
  • A valid passport which should have at least one clear page for a visa. Diplomatic passport holders should submit both copies of the passport pages that contain personal data of the bearer and original passport

  • One passport size photo of the applicant which should be stapled to the marked space at the upper right-hand corner of the application form

  • A copy of the passport page with the visa of the country you are going to and/or from.

  • Copies of your airline tickets.

  • A cover letter from your company or from you with information about the traveler, destination, terms and dates of the transit.
